Redeemer Lutheran | Who We Are

Redeemer is a body of believers in God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit. We are a Christian Church, gathered around and strengthened by God's Word, the Bible, and His Gifts of Baptism and Communion. We confess the faith in the words of the historic creeds of the Christian Church as explained in the Lutheran Confessions.

Redeemer Lutheran Church holds membership in the Alberta-British Columbia District of Lutheran Church-Canada (LCC).

Our Mission Statement:

"Seizing every opportunity to reach out
And witness to all people
the love of God in Christ Jesus."

About Lutherans

The Lutheran church is a direct result of the Protestant Reformation begun in 1517 by Martin Luther in Wittenberg, Germany.

Lutheran Church–Canada was founded in 1988 when the Canadian congregations of St. Louis-based The Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod formed an autonomous Canadian church. Lutheran Church–Canada is comprised of congregations, pastors, and deacons committed to sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Our confessions and practises are based on the foundation of God's Word and the belief that God's gift of salvation is found only through faith in Jesus Christ, God's only Son. In more than 325 congregations, from British Columbia to Nova Scotia, this message is proclaimed in word and deed.

Our History

Ministry began in the Didsbury area over 100 years ago. On December 1, 1907, St Paul’s Lutheran Church of Westcott was organized. In 1915 services were held in the Town of Didsbury and on December 21, 1927 St. John’s Lutheran Church was formed. On November 29, 1945 the two congregations joined to become Redeemer Lutheran Church, Didsbury. It received its incorporation in the province of Alberta on March 22, 1946.

Ground was broken on June 26, 1947 for a new building which dedicated on Reformation Day, October 31, 1948. Construction on the present facility began September 25, 1979 and the building was dedicated on June 15, 1980.
